Trip’s Over, Get Off!

Alaska Trip Journal Entry 8

Slept in on the last day. Ate as much for breakfast as I could. I doubt I’ll ever see buffet breakfast again unless I get on another cruise or something. Also, the night before I got a lot of pool fix since the Radiance of the Seas has two pool tables that are regulated by a gyroscope to keep the tables levelled. It’s a novel idea but an auto-levelling floor would’ve been much better since although the tables remain levelled, the player is constantly moving along with the ship.

Still, with a bit of practice, I got into the groove and had lots of fun. I should shoot pool more often or at the very least, once a month or so.

Some of my cousins and an uncle did the rock climbing activity. Me? I’d rather watch the hot ladies climb. :P

In the past entries, I’ve only mentioned the stops, but on the cruise ship itself, there were some pretty cool activities. As mentioned, the shows they played were cool. Dance shows, comedy acts, magic shows. All good stuff. There was an ice-carving show that was pretty cool to watch. An art gallery auction (hell if I bid on anything there, though) and dance parties coupled with karaoke and dancing challenges filled out the roster of “Things to do” while in transit.

The two things I disliked on the trip, were the staterooms, which were nearly unbearably small and the two nights where it was mandatory to have formal wear for dinner. At least have the darn captain eat dinner with us on those nights.

Anyway, we arrived in Vancouver, Canada and were kicked off the ship. Rode a shuttle to the airport where we flew Air Canada. It was a surprisingly pleasant flight due to the meals and snacks give (not sold), the two full featured movies and short film and the relatively comfy seats. Prior to that we had to wait about 4 hours in the airport for our flight but that was okay. Why? Not because of the goodies mentioned earlier, but the sighting of Jorge Garcia. Dressed in red dirt/rusty colored shirt and tan khakis shorts, I didn’t really recognize him but he stuck in my head. Once we arrived at Honolulu International Airport and were waiting for our baggage, I saw him being helped by guy in a suit. I jabbed my mum (not hard, mind) and said, “Eh… isn’t that the guy from Lost?” She recognized him and wanted to get his autograph. Did I? Nah, I stopped watching Lost and didn’t really care. “But he’s a celebrity!”, you say. Well, yeah, but meh. I don’t need a photograph or scrawl written on a piece of paper to remember seeing an actor in person. I’ve got this blog. :D

Of course, a little snapshot would’ve been cool. But man, I keep thinking how much of a burden it is to always get photographed and such, so it’s all good.

Yes, my mum got his autograph. And my dad took a picture of her standing next to him. Then, everyone (well, not everyone, a few people started trickling up) started to bother him.

A good end to a wonderful experience. Would I go on a cruise again? Most likely. To Alaska? Hell yeah.
